L.A. water cops get muscle to fight drought

Laser beams eyed as tools in drought

Samer Naif, a student at the University of California San Diego, sits atop a scinillometer transmitter in an Alfalfa field in Blythe, Calif. It's a laser device that measures evaporation and helps in calculating exactly how much water is needed to properly irrigate. Seventy-six years after the invention of the modern sprinkler helped revolutionize farming, lasers may revolutionize it again.
